Valentines Challenge- 14 Valentines in 14 days – #5

My fiance HATES glitter, he is a custodian for the school system and is always having to clean it up, I on the other hand LOVE it..lol.

So we have reached an agreement, I can play with glitter glue to my hearts content and use glitter in the kitchen on tile (the rest of the place except the bathroom is carpet)

So here is me playing with glitter glue and some paper weaving I did last year for a series of ATCs that i had extras of

Trip to the LIBRARY!

We have this great thing in Boise called the Library!…. please note the name is actually LIBRARY! it is in fact as far as I know the only city or state building in the country where an exclamation point is part of the actual name… I love that.

One of my favorite parts of the Library! is that I can buy old magazines for $.10, and used library paperback and children’s books for $.25 and hardbound books for $.50 in a place called “under the stairs” (they have a huge flight of stairs just inside the front door.) They also have a real bookstore where they sell newer donated books that have never been on the shelves and newer magazines for a little more (between $1 and $3 for magazines and $1 and $8 for books) I also saw some old vintage magazines that i will check out next time I am there.
I was on my way to the Goth Coffee and Game meet up I host on Thursdays at a local downtown coffee place (I also host a Wednesday Alternative Artist/Crafters meet-up there as well.. it is a blast since I would probably be there anyway) so i didn’t have long to shop but I did grab 11 cheap $.10 magazines, one $.50 hardback book to use for an altered book and a $1.50 newer paperback that looked good. I also found a 2002 copy of Sommerset Studio ($.10) but I am afraid I left it at the coffee shop, I will call in the morning to find out.
One thing they have in Dawson’s coffee shop is a very large wooden dinner table that seats 8 easily and 10 with some effort and is great for art… I carry a couple large sheets of plasticized Freezer/deli paper in my Art Supply bag to cover the table if I do anything wet but the staff there is very mellow about us doing art there. I did some more pages in my WLS Art Journal I am making and had fun watching my friends play Apples to Apples.
I plan to hit the LIBRARY! again next week or so and take a better look at what they have for sale and hope to find my Sommerset Studio magazine tomorrow.

NOTE:: found my magazine in the Bag of Games I take to coffee each week

DIY Save the dates and Invited for the handfasting

I am changing our Handfasting site into less of a blog and more of an official wedding site so I am moving my DIY and art projects form it to here

The invite covers, a photo I did of Alex’s hand holding a squishy heart

Front of our invites

I did these on 140lbs Watercolor paper that I painted (watercolor wash sprinkled with raw sugar to get a cool effect) and then drew on, These are Art Trading Card size little cards (2.5in x 3.5in) and I mounted
them on cut down notecards I got for $.25 an 8 pack at Micheal’s.
I printed out the insides on business cards and glued them inside. I love
DIY projects and these were CHEAP, about $.06 a piece…LOL.

The inside is done in word so it is formatted slightly differently (this was a photoshop image

DIY Dragon Handfasting Cake toppers

Grandma was going to buy us this heavy pewter dragon sculpture for a cake topper but with postage it was about $60 and not really going to go with the theme we have for the Handfasting reception which is “A Big Kids Party for Adults”

So while I was taking her shopping today I showed her these plastic model dragons and told her my idea and that we were going to get them one at a time and do them when we could afford them… they are $15 each and I just had a cut in my income by over $200 a month… and she said grab them now and consider them your and Alex’s Christmas gifts but you have to decorate them and wrap them as Christmas gifts and bring them to the Christmas eve party.

Here are the dragons as we bought them:

I am using Folkart 662 Metallic Silver Sterling and Folkart 658 Metallic Antique Gold acrylic craft paints to glitz them up

Here is the first one finished, all I need to do now is buy plastic safe clear spray paint to seal them.

and these are the little knights (minus the dragon) we are going to have besieging the cake, we can buy 4 tubes for under $20 with coupons at Micheals
